Most memorable jewellery moments 2021

As the year comes to an end, we're looking back at some memorable headline moments featuring lavish jewellery. From red carpets to engagements and glittering balls to social media showstoppers, here are our stand-out jewellery jaw-droppers from 2021.

1. Adele's Saturn Earrings

Adele made headlines when she returned to the stage at Oprah’s concert special donning striking gold and diamond Saturn-shaped earrings to match her tattoo. And it turns out there's a hidden astrological meaning behind the look. The tattoo and custom-made earrings indicate the importance Adele places on Saturn, as she mentioned in an interview with Vogue that Saturn Return had a huge impact on her life and the turmoil that took place.

With celestial jewellery being full of fun moon, stars and planet design motifs, sparking a sense of joy and magic, it’s no wonder so many are opting to add an astrological touch to their daily look. Mystical and marvellous, this heavenly inspired jewellery can also be associated with luck, love, and protection – which makes it a lovely addition to anyone’s jewellery box.

2. Zendaya at the Oscars

Emmy award-winning actress Zendaya is known to have fun with High Jewellery and her appearance at the 93rd annual anniversary of the Academy Awards was no exception.

Zendaya wore two diamond collars with a removeable centre brooch and tassel, complete with a yellow, six-carat cushion-cut diamond. She paired the statement necklace with yellow diamond teardrop earrings and a 21.14 carat fancy intense yellow diamond ring. And, of course, when it comes to yellow diamond jewellery, the richer the yellow, the more expensive it is – which makes Zendaya’s ring even more dazzling.

We love the yellow diamond look as it’s so unique. Yellow diamonds symbolise cheerfulness, happiness, wisdom, and intellect, so it’s easy to see why people choose them. This colour of diamond never fails to make an impression.

3. Iman at the Met Gala

Fashion model Iman brought statement earrings back to the red carpet at the 2021 Met Gala. Wearing striking multicoloured citrine and diamond pendant earrings in 18K yellow gold, Iman showed long, boldly coloured drops have returned to fashion.

Citrine is the perfect autumnal accessory that brings out the vibrant colours of the season. Also known as the sunbeam crystal, it is said to bring light and stimulate the joy we feel on a sunny day, making you feel optimistic, positive and happy about life. It’s a great way to brighten your wardrobe and mood this winter.

People have also turned to citrines to clear their minds and hearts of emotional baggage. The happiness of the gem evokes joy and elevates moods, which makes it the ideal gemstone to start the new year in the right frame of mind.

4. Kourtney Kardashian Engagement Ring

Kourtney Kardashian announcing her engagement to former Blink 182-star, Travis Barker, is one of the most talked about moments of 2021. Naturally, we ran straight to social media to catch sight of the stunning diamond.

Travis opted for an elongated oval shaped solitaire diamond sitting on a pave band. This style is very popular as it flatters the wearer by making the finger appear longer and slimmer. Although ovals have been popular for centuries, in recent years the ring shape is experiencing a massive spike in interest. Several celebrity engagements have contributed to the revival of brides’ love for the oval engagement ring. And with Kourtney showcasing this one, we think 2022 is going to be an even bigger year for the oval.

5. Sarah Jessica Parker at the And Just Like That premiere

After years of speculation, 2021 was the year that Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker) confirmed a spin-off series of Sex and The City was in the works.

At the hotly anticipated premiere for And Just Like That, actress Sarah Jessica Parker paid homage to her most famous character as she layered rivière necklaces. The rivière style was developed in the 18th century, and is comprised of gemstones of the same species that are all the same size and shape or graduate smoothly in size. Historically, the gemstones were set in separate collets and later in prong or claw mountings.

SJP’s vintage look is one we absolutely adore – there is something magical about a piece of jewellery with a past that holds its value. It’s a true heirloom to pass down from generation to generation.

6. Billie Eilish at the Met Gala

Channelling Marilyn Monroe in Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend, Billie Eilish dazzled as she stacked multiple diamond rings accompanied by diamond earrings and four 18-karat gold diamond bracelets.

Stacking rings has become popular again lately as it is one of the most versatile ways to wear jewellery, and suggests a casual and cool approach. With so many ring stacking options, you don’t have to settle on just one metal. You could feature gorgeous precious and semi-precious-coloured gemstones – citrine and amethyst for example. It’s a great option for those looking for a way to wear their sentimental rings at once. Women now often wear their wedding ring, engagement ring and eternity rings all on one finger. Since wedding bands and eternity rings usually look similar, they pair wonderfully.
